Descriptif du bien
REMARKABLE LOUIS XVI NEOCLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE IN GREAT PERIL - Winner of the Mission Bern heritage lottery - Complete with its rare period interior decoration elements - Rare 18th-century estate in a state of peril - Between Paris and Lyon - 43 enclosed hectares - Numerous outbuildings
In the heart of the Auxois region, a few kilometers from the beautiful town of Semur-en-Auxois, this 17th-century château was extensively remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The formerly landscaped grounds with their French-style gardens, remarkable trees, and 3-hectare pond still form an extraordinary setting of great beauty.
A typical château from the second half of the 18th century, whose central building, surrounded by two wings and a terrace centered on a portico, overlooks a pond of over 3 hectares with its central fountain on an island. The unity of the estate is very rare, comprising two entrance pavilions, former stables and outbuildings, a kennel, a guardhouse, a former fishpond, several wells, and a partially walled garden.
The park is a fine example of 18th-century Romantic parks: imagined as early as the 17th century, it would take a century for it to be taken over by gardeners, including that of the Prince of Conti, who designed paths and canals and planted numerous tree species, almost all of which came from the naturalist Buffon's park in Montbard.
This château, located on a royal road, was first owned by a prominent family who used it to showcase their wealth and constantly tried to impress the highest officials of the state. Legend has it that the model farm (which is no longer part of the estate) was inspired by Marie-Antoinette. The architectural work as a whole is a tribute to the King and makes it a miniature Burgundian Versailles.
Our opinion
Many possibilities exist for this monument. But it's also a colossal project to bring it back to life.
The proximity to transport routes, the homogeneity of the estate, and its architecture suggest various project possibilities, whether in tourism development, agriculture (such as market gardening, etc.), or even more ambitious projects. This project requires a significant budget to launch the initial rescue work. Listed as a historic monument, it may be possible to apply for classification, thus enabling an ambitious rescue project.
