HôTEL DU DUC JEAN V - Listed Historic Mansion - At the foot of the cathedral - First half of the 15th century - Hanging garden - Two adjoining houses - 6km from the beaches. Tréguier, Côtes d'Armor, Brittany. At the foot of Tréguier Cathedral, one of the most beautiful and touristy medieval towns in Brittany, 6km from the beaches, this listed aristocratic mansion from the first half of the 15th century, with its remarkable façade and interior decoration, consists of two houses that can be used together or separately. Its garden overlooks the river and leads to a belvedere, giving the whole place a countryside feel in complete privacy. Tradition establishes this as the residence of Duke John V during his visits to Tréguier, notably during pilgrimages in 1419 (for a cure for measles) and 1427, and during the construction of the tomb of Saint Yves between 1420 and 1430, at the Duke's initiative in gratitude for his release by the Penthièvres. On a beautiful medieval cobbled pedestrian street with shops, just a few steps from the cathedral square, the beautifully slabbed granite facade features a rare arrangement of five ogival bays on the ground floor, a door framed by four windows, surmounted by a space to accommodate a coat of arms. On the first floor, there are two large windows, formerly mullioned. On the second floor, a corbelled gallery, now gone, has given way to two 18th-century windows. However, the very elegant cornice, punctuated by corbels, on which the gallery once rested, remains. The adjoining house on the right side features a beautiful 18th-century double door on the ground floor, and on the second floor, a beautiful half-timbered corbelled gallery, punctuated by half-engaged columns with Corinthian capitals, cornices with corbels, and modillions. The floor plan, which is very deep, presents two beautiful rooms per level in each of the houses, making four rooms per level. The superb stone spiral staircase serves each level through ogival and stepped doors. It is embedded in the work, which is an arrangement from the early 15th century; the pepperpot roof that topped it must have disappeared. The interior comprises, on the ground floor, a large room that still has its embouchure, a gym with a jacuzzi opening onto the garden, a storeroom, and a shop. On the first floor, a large room with remarkably high ceilings, a fireplace embedded in the typical 14th-century wall with access to a terrace on the garden side, and a large kitchen. In the adjoining house, there is a bedroom adorned with 18th-century woodwork and a beautiful natural wood fireplace, and a kitchen/living room adorned with woodwork. On the second floor, there are three beautiful bedrooms and a bathroom in the 15th-century oratory, which still has its ogival bay window, a niche under a trefoil arch, and views from the side rooms. Two bedrooms and a bathroom. On the third floor, there is a study under the roof, lit by two large skylights offering breathtaking views of Tréguier, the cathedral, and the Jaudy Mountains. A convertible attic with a beautiful barrel-vaulted roof, typical of the 15th century. Beautiful, flat, sheltered garden overlooking the Guindy River, approximately 500m², with a swimming pool. At the back, a very charming little 18th or 19th century square belvedere under a hipped roof, on two levels. Inside, a very charming room decorated with 19th century carved wood paneling in the natural neoclassical style, a fireplace, and antique door and window frames. Quiet. A large garage with parking for two cars, with access from the adjacent street.
