Just 2 hours 30 minutes from Paris, in a small 19th-century seaside town, the painter Jean-Paul Laurens commissioned in 1872 his friend Georges Diéterle — painter, decorator and architect — to design a manor house in an eclectic style blending Tuscan, Toulouse, medieval and Norman influences, surrounded by terraced gardens and located only 600 metres from the beach.
The flint-built architecture, enhanced with brick detailing, features semi-circular arched openings, some arranged in paired Italianate-style bays, while the projecting half-timbered upper floor recalls medieval Norman architecture.
