Raised to the rank of a marquisate in 1745, the chateau embodies all the refinement of the 18th century, with the particularly rare distinction that both the residence and its gardens were conceived by the same artist. Jean-Baptiste Bouchardon belonged to one of the greatest dynasties of French artists of the 18th century, many of whom worked at Palace of Versailles for the King. Restored with great taste around 1960, the property today remains in very good condition. Its exceptional garden — among the finest in the region — restored around 1970, has now reached a magnificent maturity and is occasionally opened to the public. Built in finely cut pale limestone ashlar, the architecture is characteristic of 18th-century classicism through its perfectly balanced symmetry.
