In the heart of the village of Nyoiseau, population 1,300, the remains of this important Benedictine abbey for women, founded in 1109 by the hermit Salomon, disciple of Robert of Arbrissel, founder of Fontevraud Abbey, are currently in a state of peril. The abbey possesses exceptional documentary significance through its cartulary dating back to 1123.The ensemble includes the 18th-century steward’s house, built on a rectangular plan with a handsome façade highlighted by a corbelled cornice beneath a hipped roof, now in perfect condition following a high-quality restoration carried out in accordance with Historic Monument standards in 2012. Inside are oak-beamed ceilings with exposed joists and lime-rendered walls. The building comprises four rooms per floor over two storeys.
