ARTOIS PAVILION IN VAUX-SUR-SEINE, traditionally attributed to the Count of Artois, brother of Louis XVI - 4 hectares on the banks of the Seine, piers on the Seine, private island, outbuildings
No historical document links this building to the Count of Artois. However, various architectural and decorative details allow us to link it to François-Joseph Bélanger, who notably designed the Pavillon de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne for the Count of Artois. He was also the Count of Artois's chief architect.
With a U-shaped plan, the main courtyard opens onto a rotunda with a Greek column and Doric capital typical of the 1780s to 1790s. This rotunda features a set of French windows with their original mercury glass.
To the left, a beautiful spiral staircase without a stringer. To the right, an oval dining room with overhead lighting, representing the architectural avant-garde of the late 18th century.
On the park side, a series of lounges with superb woodwork, including a library adorned with wood paneling featuring flower baskets and carved wooden putti of extraordinary quality and particularly detailed decoration. A marble fireplace with remarkably chiseled gilded bronzes attributed to Galle or Thomire.

The right wing, and in particular the oval dining room, opens onto a courtyard with a fountain. This space provides access to the private theater. The French garden that was located there until recently no longer exists. In the outbuildings, an exceptional 100-seat theater adorned with a superb Charles X period platform in precious wood marquetry.
A superb boudoir adorned with panoramic wallpapers on the theme of American independence, with its terrace overlooking the garden.
A bathroom with a bathtub built into the floor with a bronze swan-neck faucet in the style of 1920s Art Deco.
On the upper floor of the house, enjoy the overhead lighting, its finely marquetry furniture, and a rotunda office.

In the wings, there are various rooms, bedrooms, a screening room, a library, a pantry, and a superb kitchen completely renovated in 2000 in solid oak and polished granite.
The left wing opens onto a small courtyard known as the Saint-Anne courtyard. This courtyard separates the pavilion from the outbuildings, which include two very comfortable staff quarters, garages, a laundry room, and a boiler room.
Throughout the eastern part of the property, there are superb and vast vegetable gardens and orchards with a heated greenhouse and large outbuildings dedicated to the maintenance of this part of the park.
In the vegetable garden, an exceptional collection of mature magnolias.
On either side, there are several shaded paths that wind through the park, as well as a large, romantic rockery grotto with an artificial river.
