19TH CENTURY MASTERPIECE LISTED AS A HISTORIC MONUMENT BETWEEN RENNES AND VANNES - 50km from Vannes - Extraordinary 19th-century château with fantastic granite neo-Renaissance architecture - 30 hectares - Numerous outbuildings - Stud farm - Offered for sale for the first time in its history - Options to purchase an additional 40 hectares of woodland - Between Rennes and Vannes, Morbihan, Brittany A preliminary sales agreement has just been signed for this property, which is therefore no longer available. In a sumptuous romantic park offering unobstructed south-facing views of the beautiful Morbihan countryside, this spectacular château, completed in 1898, one of Brittany's late 19th-century masterpieces, sits on a medieval site that still retains dry moats and three original 16th-century pavilions. Offered for sale for the first time in its history, it presents a remarkably authentic state. The particularly rich Renaissance-inspired architecture is exceptional for the quality of its execution, all in large granite assemblage of different colors and textures. It is clearly one of the most beautiful castles of this period in Brittany, among the best built. It presents a rectangular plan with a central body bordered by two projecting corner pavilions, one housing the superb two-story palatial chapel. A difference in levels between the facades produces an even more monumental effect. The northeast facade, overlooking the park, offers direct access to the ground floor through a large cast iron canopy; the southeast facade rises on a monumental basement that houses a large underground hall and service areas. The facades present a very rich architectural repertoire of bossages and cross-bars, petrifications, powerful chainwork, cartouches, carved leather, shells, moldings, projecting keystones, dormers, pediments, and very powerful chimney stacks. All within a symphony of granite with sumptuous color schemes-gray, ochre, and black-and textures, rustic bossages, more or less smooth, more or less bush-hammered surfaces. Scholarly quotations punctuate the facades, breaking the symmetry. On one side, two large stained-glass windows, one rosette-shaped, the other semicircular, bordered by statues in the round of Saint Louis and his wife, Marguerite of Provence; on the other, a very artful watchtower. The neo-Renaissance entrance hall is particularly spectacular, adorned with columns, the grand oak staircase with balusters adorned with lion protomes, and decorated with stenciled wall canvases, low wainscoting, a cement tile floor, and stucco ceilings. To the right, a smoking office adorned with wall-mounted display cases, low wainscoting, and wall decorations of printed fabrics. A large central hallway runs through the entire house, with cement tile floors, low wainscoting, wall stencils, and beamed and joisted ceilings. A superb suite of south-facing living rooms offers unobstructed views. The central living room is adorned with beautiful woodwork, three beautiful double doors, a pair of circa 1700 oil paintings depicting Bacchus and Venus set into the woodwork, herringbone flooring, and a south-facing balcony. The dining room features low wainscoting, a richly carved neo-Renaissance wooden fireplace adorned with a portrait of Louis XIV, beamed and joisted ceiling, and herringbone flooring. The large living room features richly carved Louis XIV-style woodwork, an 18th-century stucco ceiling, and a Louis XV-style marble fireplace. The small Louis XVI-style living room is adorned with woodwork, and a Louis XVI-style marble fireplace, facing southeast, and herringbone flooring. To the northeast, with independent access, is a sumptuous two-story palatial chapel with a gallery. Adorned with two splendid Art Nouveau stained-glass windows, one depicting the Virgin Mary, populated by angels and natural lilies, the other in a rosette depicting Jesus and the four evangelists in a sky also populated by angels. A 17th-century wooden altarpiece, richly carved with four twisted columns under a large pediment, three oil paintings embedded in the altarpiece, an Annunciation, a saint in prayer, and possibly the vows of Louis XIII. To the north, an office, a hunting room adorned with cupboards, in its original state, and a marble fireplace. A linen room, adorned with large cupboards. A kitchen to the west, cupboards, cement tiles. Small dining room facing south, parquet floor, Louis XIV-style red marble fireplace, low paneling. Furniture hoist for wood. Dumbwaiter. On the first floor, a billiard hall with rich decor of columns, stucco, and acanthus leaves. A large hallway adorned with interior stained-glass windows, low paneling, 11 bedrooms, six of which face south, a bathroom, two bathrooms to be renovated, sink and bidet in each room. A south-facing Chinese bedroom with wooden floors, a 19th-century bathroom, and a marble fireplace. The master bedroom, known as the Madame's bedroom, features a marble fireplace, Louis XVI overmantels, and a bathroom. On the second floor, 17 rooms, partially stripped of their fittings following a dry rot attack that has received some initial treatment; still to be finished. On the third floor, a large attic with superb roof framing. Basement: South-facing entrance hall, stucco decoration, corbels, beamed ceiling. Stone staircase hall adorned with a neo-Renaissance stone column, cement tile floor. Priest's bedroom. Office dining room, 16th-century Renaissance stone fireplace with beautiful jambs, terracotta floor. Glass-paneled hall, freight elevator, service staircase. One bedroom.
